Perdido Key State Recreation Area

Encompasses 247 acres on a barrier island, which buffers the mainland from winds and threatening tides. Provides habitat for shore birds and other coastal animals. Picnic shelters are between the Gulf and the Old River, which bounds Perdido Key on the north. (850) 492-1595

 

Big Lagoon State Recreation Area

More than 75 campsites; five picnic areas with shelters, 500-seat amphitheater; boat ramp with dock; boardwalks and nature trails; and observation tower offering a panoramic view of Big Lagoon.  Located at 12301 Gulf Beach Hwy, just north of Perdido Key.  Call (850) 492-1595.

One-time home of former lumber baron William Henry Wesley, resides in one of South Walton's oldest settlements, Point Washington.  Standing on the porch of this restored antebellum home, looking toward the bay through the large moss draped oaks, you'll feel like you've stepped into the 19th century.
